Disaster Recovery
Disaster Recovery (DR) is the portion of the Business Continuity (BC) Program, including, policies and procedures related to preparing for recovery or continuation of technology critical to an organization after an incident causes an interruption of any type either natural or man-made. While business continuity involves planning for keeping all aspects of an organization functioning in the midst of disruptive events, disaster recovery focuses on the IT or technology systems that support business functions.
To ensure your website has Disaster Recovery protection, please contact your project's sales consultant for more information.
Terminology
This article uses the following terms:
- The recovery time objective (RTO), which is the maximum acceptable length of time that your application can be offline. This value is usually defined as part of a larger service level agreement (SLA).
- A recovery point objective (RPO), which is the maximum acceptable length of time during which data might be lost due to a major incident. Note that this metric describes the length of time only; it does not address the amount or quality of the data lost.
Service Level Agreement (SLA)
Efelle Creative provides 99.9% uptime for our hosting services.
Recovery Time Objective (RTO)
The maximum acceptable length of time (RTO) that your application can be offline for is 8 hours and 45 minutes per year. Any time past our SLA will result in refunds issued to the affected organization.
Recovery Point Objective (RPO)
In the event of a total server failure, we can recover your entire server within 20 minutes of the start of the incident. Within this timeframe, our teams will be working to have a server built with data from the previous day. If there’s a datacenter outage, we will rebuild your server with data from the previous day (more than 24 hrs) in our failover datacenter in a separate region. In the event that our teams need to rebuild your server in a separate datacenter, we will only need to coordinate with your organization to update the IP address for the domain of your website in your organization’s DNS provider. If our teams are able to recover the affected server with data intact, we will recover your data from the point when the server failed (15 minutes before the event).
Service Provided
Efelle Creative will host your application on a server or servers with the following minimum hardware requirements:
- 50GB of storage (SSD)
- 2GB of Memory
- 2TB of transfer/bandwidth each month
Each Server starts with 2TB of bandwidth/transfer per month. Once the monthly transfer limit has been exceeded, the cost of bandwidth is $0.01 per GB over the limit.
Your server(s) will be hosted in a datacenter controlled by DigitalOcean Cloud Services. The datacenters efelle Creative chooses to host in are located in the NYC area (located in the Equinix and Telx datacenters) and San Francisco (Telx). If your organization requires hosting outside of the United States, please contact us at [email protected]
Any outages or application downtime that occurs, reimbursements will be calculated based on the hours of downtime.
Efelle Creative does not provide DNS/Domain services. It’s the responsibility of your organization to ensure DNS hosting and Domain registrar services are purchased and managed separately from efelle Creative. In situations where a DNS provider or domain expiration causes an Application outage, efelle Creative will work with your organization to assist in bringing services back up.
In no way does the failure of your DNS service or domain registrar constitute an Application or Server failure covered by our SLA with your organization.
Site Reliability
All web servers have monitoring enabled that will notify our DevOps teams of any rising issues. DigitalOcean Cloud Services provides a 99.99% Uptime SLA for both Servers and Networked Storage.
Every minute, our monitoring services will run health-checks on your website to collect the following information:
- Application error logs
- Status Codes / Error Codes (200, 404, 500, 503, 403)
- DNS status (whether the primary DNS
A record
has changed for the domain) - CPU Usage
- Memory Usage
- Inbound/Outbound bandwidth
- Disk usage
Every day, servers are backed up to two datacenters (NYC and San Francisco). We retain up to four backups a week. Additionally, our FusionCMS application allows for manual backups of the Application and Database in case your organization would like to periodically download a fresh backup of your website via the control panel.
