Seattle Fish Guys
Project Description
eCommerce Website and Development for Fresh Seafood Company in Seattle, WA
A staple of the Seattle food scene, Seattle Fish Guys has been selling fresh and delicious seafood from their storefront in the Central District for years. Though their primary business is in selling all varieties of ocean fare, they also have a restaurant and offer catering services.
Prior to our partnership, what SFG did not have was an online store. We were happy to partner up with their team to create a stunning, sea-worthy eCommerce website.
Website Design Inspiration
At Seattle Fish Guys, the quality and freshness of the food speaks for itself—we wanted to put that fact front and center on their website. The homepage design loads on a full-screen photo of one of their delicious meal items with the logo sitting large and prominent at the top of the page. Big, bold imagery in this style is used regularly throughout the site as full-width backgrounds for headings and call-to-action content.
Our team added additional interest to the homepage masthead by employing a strong, unique script font—used throughout the site as a heading font—to introduce the company’s two primary calls to action: “Shop” and “Visit.”
The logo acts as design inspiration for a number of other elements throughout the site, including graphical background imagery and call-to-action iconography. It also provides the primary color—teal—for links and buttons throughout the site. The teal elements both echo the ocean theme while also providing attractive contrast from the thoughtfully used white space ubiquitous throughout the design.
Website Development Successes
Seattle Fish Guys offer a wide variety of seafood choices on their impressive menu—given this reality, it was important to build solid filtering options into the eCommerce space. We built the site so that categories can either be navigated via the dropdown menu in the sticky navigation header or on the “Shop All” page underneath the masthead. Items can then be sorted alphabetically to make finding specific products easier.
Other UX-inspired elements throughout the site include subtle hover effects and user-controlled image sliders that add interest, condense content, and enhance usability. We also developed the header to shrink on scroll, allowing the logo to provide the "wow" factor at the top of the homepage without eating up too much "above the fold" space elsewhere on the site.
The overall result is a high-functioning website that’s as easy to explore as it is beautiful. Ahoy!
