New Website for Seattle-Based Family Black Belt Academy Is Full of Kick

Family Black Belt Academy’s Service and Class Offerings Have Never Looked Sharper

For more than two decades, Family Black Belt Academy—located in Seattle, WA—has prided itself on not only teaching the physical actions involved in martial arts, but on helping to instill confidence, character, and leadership skills in its students, as well. The Family Black Belt team is on a mission to encourage all who walk through their studio doors to embrace the values of respect and empathy.

Project Background and Goals

Family Black Belt asked efelle to help them design and develop a new website so they could better leverage their online marketing assets to generate more leads and reduce student attrition. The Family Black Belt team considers users signing up for a free lesson and current students registering for the advanced leadership program the desired actions—or conversions—they want users to complete on their website.

Web Design and Development Efforts

To inspire the noted conversions, our team focused on improving the website’s user flow. To this end, we made the class schedule more accessible and easier to update. Users can access all class-related content within one or two clicks by surfing through the streamlined main navigation menu.

The class pages themselves have clear hierarchy and links off to related pages and registration areas. Frequently asked questions are succinctly housed in accordion-style content blocks and the primary call to action (“Try an Introductory Class”) is well placed near the bottom of each class description page; this CTA is made more desirable by the cohesive narrative told through the stream of elements above.

The class schedule is tidily organized and features a third-party registration application pulled into the site via use of an inline frame. This means that users can register for classes on Family Black Belt’s preferred system without having to navigate away from the main site.

Other highlights include a stunning, optimized homepage masthead video, a bright about page template with seamless user flow off to other important site spaces, an events area, and custom contact forms.
